One of the things that makes lacrosse such a great sport is the fact that it’s a very fast-moving game. Certain plays and situations on the lax field can take shape at the drop of a hat, so players need to be alert at all times. Since this athletic endeavor is so fast-moving, that means players don’t have much time to think.
With this in mind, it’s crucial for lax players to let things come naturally and to trust their instincts in a number of instances. Building trust – whether it’s with your teammates or yourself – isn’t always something that young athletes are born with. Sometimes, this idea of trust has to get built up and honed over time.
Trust can start forming when you overcome whatever fears you may have while on the lacrosse field. It’s important to realize that you’ve built up trust in yourself in many other experiences in your life, so all that’s really necessary is transferring it over to lax. Constantly worrying about every aspect of your game will end up hurting you more than helping you.
Think about the other instances in your life in which you’ve built up trust. Before you engage in whatever that activity is, do you start to overthink before actually throwing yourself into it? Probably not – it’s become second nature, so you hop right in without thinking or reservations. Basically, you trust that your mind and body will instinctively know what to do once the activity is right in front of your face.
Every time you do something well on the lacrosse field – whether it’s a move, defense, pass, or score – take a second after you’re off the field to think about the role your self-trust played in order to make that happen. Many sports are just as mental as they are physical, so it’s important to trust the process you’ve gone through to get prepared for whatever comes your way on the field. This is how you’ll truly be able to reach your full potential in lacrosse. You work hard to get ready for game day, so believe in all the hard work you did up until then and let your instincts take over!
That’s why GameBreaker Lacrosse Camps spend time on both the physical and mental aspects of the game – you won’t be able to reach all of your goals without both! Lax players will leave our camps with better individual skills, ranging from stick skills to shooting and defending. Our coaches will also spend time talking about the importance of team play and teaching the concepts that’ll help make a team better at the end of the day.
And to top everything off, this isn’t going to be a boot camp… our campers always have a ton of fun! While we get a lot of work in during the few days we spend together, our Camp Directors always design programs with the goal of having it all take place in a fun and positive environment.
