About Our Coaches

Dan Corcoran

Dan Corcoran enters his eighth season at Connecticut College. After coaching the defense in 2010 and 2011, Corcoran took over the offense and man-up unit in 2012. Corcoran’s offenses output of 8.8 goals a game was enough to lead Connecticut College to the quarter finals of the NESCAC and NCAA tournament.

Corcoran’s players were ranked fifth in shooting percentage, scoring 151 goals on 590 shot for a .271 percentage. His man up unit was ranked #1 in the NESCAC scoring percentage with 20 goals on 54 attempts for a .371 percentage. Corcoran coached his first offensive All-American mid-fielder John Lyons ‘13.

In 2013, Corcoran's offense averaged 9.5 goals per game. The man-up offensive unit executed successfully on 33% of its chances to rank second in the NESCAC while the team finished third in the conference with a .288 shot percentge.

Sophomore attackman Chad Sawyer was honored as a USILA All-American.

Coach Corcoran directed the Camels defense in 2010 with a 14-3 record, their first-ever top seeding in the NESCAC Championship, a rise to #6 in US Lacrosse rankings, and their first appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship. With Corcoran as defensive coordinator, the team limited opponents to an average of 7.1 goals per game, which earned the Camels second place in the league and 19th in the country. Corcoran coached two defensive All-Americans. The Camels defeated Tufts, Middlebury, Bowdoin, and Wesleyan who are among the national lacrosse powerhouses.

Before New London, Corcoran spent three years as the head coach at Simsbury High School in Simsbury, Connecticut, where he turned them into a lacrosse powerhouse. His combined record of 53-12, included an undefeated 2008 regular season, three trips to the Class L state semi-finals and state runner-up title in the 2009 Class L state championship. He was awarded the 2008 Connecticut US Lacrosse Coach of the Year and 2008 CHSLCA Class L Coach of the Year.

Corcoran coached 24 to the All-Conference Team, 14 players named to the Class L All-State team, two players named as All-Americans, and two as an Academic All-Americans, as well as the 2009 Hartford Courant Player of the Year.

Corcoran spent 15 years on Wall Street as a licensed trader, is currently involved in producing theater productions, consulting early stage start ups and running his Connecticut RIP-IT Elite lacrosse program. .

Billy Els

Bill Els enters his first season on the Cardinals' coaching staff in 2018 after spending the previous four years as the Defensive Coordinator and goalie coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). During his four-year tenure at RPI, the Engineers posted an overall record of 34-15 and an NCAA Division III Championship appearance in 2016. RPI won the Liberty League title in 2016 and finished the season ranked in the top-15 nationally.

Prior to his stint at RPI, Els served as the goalie coach at Connecticut College. While there, the Camels earned an NCAA Tournament berth and a top-15 ranking in 2012.

In the past five years, Els has produced two All-Americans, one at each school, in Bobby Bleinstein (Conn. College) and Alex Castronovo (RPI). It was the first All-American award for both athletes.

Originally from Long Island N.Y., Els attended St. Anthony High School in Smithtown N.Y. from 1976-80. He was the starting varsity goalie all four years and earned All-Long Island honors. Following high school, Els earned a scholarship to Hofstra University and started four years there from 1980-84. In 1983 and 1984, the team ranked in the top-10 in the country at the Division I level.
