Overview

We are excited to bring a girls overnight lacrosse camp to Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. Campers will train under Iona College Head Coach Michelle Mason and play on the colleges athletic fields. Camp is open to girls current 2nd graders through current 12th graders. We also offer a commuter option for campers who are not yet ready to sleep away from home. About Our Coaches

Michelle Mason

Michelle Mason enters her 11th season as head coach of the Iona College women's lacrosse program. Mason came to New Rochelle from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire where she held the same position for two seasons.

During her time at Iona, Mason has mentored 14 All-MAAC First Team members, 17 All-MAAC Second Team and eight MAAC All-Rookie Team selections including the 2013 MAAC Rookie of the Year Mary Kate McCormick, 2016 Co-Defensive Player of the Year Gabriella Di Domizio and the 2012 MAAC Tri-Defensive Player of the Year Stephanie Sumcizk. Along with setting the single-season wins records twice, in 2012 and 2016, and leading Iona to its first ever Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tournament birth.

Prior to her tenure at Iona, Mason was the head coach of her alma mater Keene State. Mason led the Owls to two consecutive winning seasons including a 13-8 mark in 2008. She was 21-14 in her two seasons, the highest winning percentage of the program's five head coaches. In 2005, Mason served as an assistant coach before taking over the program.

As a player, Mason had no rivals as a record-breaking attacker for the Owls. A three-time All-LEC all-star, the Fairport, New York, native established Keene State career goal (202), assists (82), and point (284) records. She also rewrote the Keene State women's soccer record book during her four seasons as the Owls' starting goalie. Mason holds a Keene State women's soccer record for most wins (66) and saves (437) in a career. The Fairport, NY native led KSC to a pair of NCAA women's soccer tournament berths and was a four-time All-LEC and three-time All-New England honoree.

A 2005 graduate of Keene State, Mason was inducted into the Keene State Hall-of-Fame in 2012.

Bairre Reilly

Iona College lacrosse head coach Michelle Mason announced Bairre Reilly as the new assistant coach of the Maroon & Gold program in September of 2018.

Reilly graduated from the University of Maryland in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology and criminal justice. As a student-athlete, Reilly was a one-time Division I Atlantic Coast Conference Champion, two-time Big-Ten Champion, and three time NCAA Champion. She also received the Women's Lacrosse Big Ten Sportsmanship award as a senior.

After graduation, Reilly served as both a sports coach and physical therapy aid. Following those stints, the Locust Valley, NY native served as a private Lacrosse Instructor where she mentored student-athletes ages 8-20 both one-on-one and in groups of two to 12 players.

Camp Details

Check in/out: Overnight and Extended Day Campers check in at 12pm on the first day of camp and Check out at 12pm on the last day. On the second and third day of camp the extended day campers will arrive at 8:45am and get picked up at 9:00pm.

Age & Ability: Camp is open to ages 8-16, all ability levels welcomed.

Meals Provided: Overnight campers will be provided with all meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Extended day campers will be provided with Lunch and Dinner.

Morning Training Session 1

Fundamental Stick Work Specialized stick routines and targeted fundamental drills

Position Specific Training

Defense including a rotation of midfielders

Footwork – pivot, recovery and angles
Stick work – clearing, carrying and stick protection
Field Awareness – recovery and on ball play

Attack 

Situational Awareness – spacing, vision and offensive flow
Shooting– time and room, on the run, shot placement and selection
Dodging – from X, the ally and up top
Clearing and Riding

Midfield

Situational Awareness – spacing, vision and offensive flow
Shooting– time and room, on the run, shot placement and selection
Dodging – from X, the ally and up top
Defensive Play – body positioning and field awareness

Goalie

Communication - ball positioning, dictating the defense’s positions and player positioning
Mechanics – placement in cage, off stick and stick side movement
Clearing – moving the ball quickly, communicating where to go with the ball and stick work

Draw Specialist

Mechanics – footwork and body positioning
Outlets – pushing the ball to wings, communicating how and where they should go
Draw – speed work, counter moves and development of additional moves

Afternoon Training Session

Unsettled Situational Game Play, focused on special awareness specific to each type of situation

2v1 Fast play from the ally, X and Y
Cross field 3v2 continuous play
3v4 off ground ball and clears
Full field transitional continuous play

Grouped Position Specific Training- Attack vs. Defense, Midfield vs. Midfield

1v1’s, 2v2’s 3v3’s, 4v4’s– from all positions on the field focusing in
on specific game philosophy’s, techniques and spatial awareness

Specialized Team Building and Leadership Events
Lacrosse capture the flag, lax baseball, lax water balloons, lax maze runner, ultimate lacrosse and other leadership activities

Afternoon Training Session 2

Game Play - Clear ride scrimmage, full field scrimmages, camp championship tournament, 7 vs 7, small field lacrosse tournament, situational game play
